Lake Placid Eye Exam

An annual Lake Placid eye exam is the best way to protect the health of your eyes and your vision. Our doctor at North Country Optical uses the latest diagnostic equipment and technology to examine your eyes for vision and detection of diseases. We are a family practice and provide eye care for every member of the family from the youngest child to adults to seniors, each of these patient age ranges has special eye concerns that are reflected on our examinations.

There is often some confusion concerning the difference between a vision screening and an eye exam. A vision screening is just that – a screening of the visual acuity of the eyes. Most of us are familiar with the simple eye test that we took in school by reciting various sized letters from a chart. A much more sophisticated version of that is at the heart of a vision screening along with tests for signs of poor vision, such as near- or farsightedness or astigmatism. A Lake Placid eye exam is a comprehensive examination of your eyes as well as your vision. The vision screening plus more tests make up the refractory portion of our eye exam and lead to not only a vision correction prescription but a diagnosis of what’s causing the refractory problem plus tests concerning the movement and coordination of the eyes, especially among young children. There is also a dilated portion of the examination where our doctor uses special instruments to look deeply into the eye and look at the structures for abnormalities, digital cameras can track the workings of the eye and our doctor looks for any signs of current and developing eye disease.

Many of the most severe eye diseases including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration develop slowly and without noticeable symptoms until they reach the advanced stage when treatment options are limited and vision loss and even blindness is possible. An annual comprehensive Lake Placid eye exam is the only effective way of detecting these diseases at an early stage when treatment is less invasive and more effective. Please make an appointment with our office for an eye exam.
