You may have heard of LASIK, the laser eye surgery that provides impressive improvement in your visual clarity if you have nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. There are many advantages to this surgery and at North Country Optical, we offer our LASIK management in Plattsburgh to help you decide if you are a good candidate for it, if you think it’s the right choice for you, let you know what to expect, and to recommend a qualified surgeon to perform the procedure.
How does LASIK work? Well, most vision problems are the result of the way light enters your eye. When your vision is normal, light will pass through your cornea and strike the center of your retina. However, if your cornea is misshapen, the light will strike the front or the back of the cornea, resulting in difficulty seeing properly up close, far away, or at all distances (such as with astigmatism). LASIK is the reshaping of your cornea, the clear front part of your eye. This permits light to strike your retina more directly and results in improved vision. As part of our LASIK management in Plattsburgh, we will answer any questions you may have about the surgery and what happens afterward. Although LASIK has a high success rate- around 90%, it will not always completely eliminate the need to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses. You may find that you don’t need your corrective lenses any more, but at minimum you will have to rely on them far less than you used to.
To qualify for LASIK, you must be at least 18 years old, have no corneal disease (past or present), and cannot be neither pregnant nor nursing. Other reasons that you may not be a good candidate for the surgery can include having eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, keratoconus, or glaucoma. You also need to be in generally good health. Our LASIK management in Plattsburgh will also want to know if your vision has been stable over the previous twelve months and that your current prescription is within specific limits. Call us today to schedule an appointment. Better vision and far less dependence on glasses or contacts is just ahead of you.
